Doors open 40 minutes before the fight — that’s when you enter the event lobby, get matchmaking without queues, and you’re already inside when the show kicks off. Late entries usually don’t make it.
Free rewards: the pickaxe and the sidekick
Epic confirmed two rewards being handed out for free to everyone who attends the live event. One is for everyone who shows up; the other only unlocks if you go with a friend:
🪓 Dark Voyager’s Pickaxe
The pickaxe is unlocked simply by attending the event. Log in on time, watch the broadcast inside the game, and at the end it lands in your locker. No extra requirements.
🐶 Bark Voyager Sidekick
The sidekick is the prize worth chasing: a fire dog that tags along in matches. But you only get it if you’re in a party with at least one friend when the event starts. Best part: the entire party receives the sidekick, not just you.
How to secure the Sidekick — step by step
- Text your friend Thursday or early Friday to coordinate — the event won’t wait.
- Friday at 6:20 PM ET (doors), both open the game and enter the Showdown lobby.
- Create a party from the main menu before queuing for matchmaking.
- Matchmake together so both end up in the same event lobby.
- Stay through the whole broadcast — leaving early disqualifies you.
- The reward lands on both accounts automatically, no claim required.
Still worth logging in. You’ll get the Dark Voyager Pickaxe regardless. And if someone shows up last minute to team up, you can still unlock the sidekick. But the pickaxe is 100% guaranteed as long as you’re in the lobby when the event begins.

Does the sidekick work in any game mode?

Can I miss the event if I don't log in?
Yes — Fortnite live events happen once inside the game. If you can't connect Friday, the only way to watch after is YouTube, but you won't receive the rewards if you weren't there live.
